Search of knowledge is a life-long process and does not end with receiving a certificate! In spite of his youth, Abdullah Ibnu Abbas, a cousin of the Prophet, became one of the most learned companions. He was only thirteen when Prophet died. He committed in memory about 1660 saying of the Prophet which have been authenticated. Whenever he heard of someone who knew hadith which he did not know, he will quickly go to him. It is important for Muslim to acquire the knowledge of a skill in order to obtain a livelihood. In pursuing professional knowledge and skills, it is important to realize that the use of any technologies should be subjected to the requirement of what is halal and haram. For example, nuclear arms, chemical/biological weapons are deemed to be haram because their use would inevitably involve the killing of innocents and non-combatants which is forbidden in the Sunnah.
